Austin’s NF2 Story: Living With Multiple Brain and Spinal Tumours While Inspiring Others
For many people, hearing the word tumour once is life-changing.
Austin has had to face it again and again.
Austin lives with Neurofibromatosis Type 2, a rare condition that can cause multiple tumours to develop throughout the brain and spine. It is a diagnosis that brings lifelong monitoring, uncertainty, treatment decisions, and challenges most people will never fully see.
But in our recent interview, Austin showed something stronger than fear — honesty, courage, and the determination to keep living life on his own terms.
Watch Austen tell her story in full in the Aunty M Brain Tumours Talk Show interview below, or keep reading for the written version

What Is NF2?
Neurofibromatosis Type 2 is a rare genetic condition linked to the growth of multiple tumours affecting nerves, the brain, and the spinal cord.
Many people with NF2 develop tumours such as:
- Vestibular Schwannoma
- Meningioma
- Schwannoma
- Spinal tumours and lesions
Austin’s journey reflects just how complex this condition can be.
Austin’s Brain and Spine Tumours
Austin openly shared the tumours he is living with.
Head / Brain Tumours
- Meningioma
- Right Oculomotor Schwannoma
- Left Trigeminal Schwannoma
- Right Trigeminal Schwannoma
- Left Vestibular Schwannoma
- Right Vestibular Schwannoma
Spine Tumours / Lesions
- Extraspinal lesions
- Intradural extramedullary lesions
- Intramedullary lesions
This means Austin is managing tumours affecting multiple areas of the central nervous system at the same time.
More Than Medical Terms
It’s easy to read a list like that and focus only on scans, surgery, hearing loss, pain, balance, or symptoms.
But Austin is not a diagnosis.
He is a person with goals, humour, strength, setbacks, hope, and a life beyond hospitals.
That’s why sharing stories like his matters.
Because awareness is not built through statistics alone — it is built through people.
Why Austin’s Story Matters
Rare disease communities are often overlooked. Conditions like NF2 can leave people feeling isolated and misunderstood.
By speaking openly, Austin helps:
- Raise awareness of NF2
- Help others feel less alone
- Educate people on brain and spinal tumours
- Show the reality behind invisible illness
- Inspire resilience without pretending it is easy
Supporting the NF2 Community
If you know someone living with NF2 or multiple tumours:
- Listen without trying to fix everything
- Understand fatigue and symptoms may be invisible
- Be patient during scans and appointments
- Stay connected
- Learn about the condition
Small support can mean a lot.

Final Thoughts
Austin’s story is powerful because it is real.
It shows that even when life becomes medically complicated, identity remains bigger than illness.
Thank you, Austin, for sharing your journey and helping bring visibility to a condition that deserves far more awareness.
